My windows 7 is not genuine but is activated. Is it safe to enable windows update?

I just want to know how can I Windows 7 Starter Activation my laptop, so that the only thing Windows 7 Home Basic Activation is the windows itself, as if I have just bought my Windows 7 Ultimate Activation. I don't have any Windows 7 Enterprise Product Key CD's, because Windows 7 Home Premium X86 came with the laptop, so how can I do that?
