A novel competition organised between Australia’s top parenting website
www.kidspot.com.au and Dunk Island Resort has seen one Blogger mum write herself into history by winning a family trip for four to Dunk Island for 7 nights, including all airfares accommodation and meals.
Kidspot’s Top 50 Bloggers were asked to write about the topic ‘family holidays’ for their posts, which were then voted on by site visitors.
“Dunk Island managed to place its logo in front of more than 11,000 unique browsers, as well as have that logo appear on 50,
we desire to create an announcement,
nike air skyline,000 screens with the bulk of the activity in the first week – and that’s just the result from Kidspot,
nike skyline,” says the resort’s marketing manager, Jeff Clements.
The competition attracted over 10,000 votes. “It was quite a challenge sifting through the thousands of amazing blogs written by extremely talented women who share their thoughts, ideas, passions and shortcomings on a daily basis in order to come up with just 50,
barefoot running shoes,” Kidspot’s executive editor Alex Brooks explained.
While Dunk Island Resort had the opportunity for its brand to appear on all 50 bloggers’ profile pages, 24 participants specially created a “Blog your way to Dunk Island post.” Most pushed out their messages through Facebook and Twitter and their own social networks as they were all keen to maximize their votes.
The winner, Melissa Klemke, mum of three and author of Frills in the Hills Blog started her blog as a new year’s resolution in January 2009. A love of cooking and baking quickly turned into an online cookbook featuring over 200 recipes with step-by-step instructions and photos.
“I think Kidspot’s Top 50 Blogger competition was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talents of those bloggers who are connecting with families in this country. Blogging isn’t merely keeping a diary like it used to be. Blogging has become an information superhighway of first hand experiences of real people. I received more than 1000 hits to my post ‘Blog your way to Dunk Island” and I’m just one of the 50 featured Bloggers,” she explains.
“Facebook and Twitter played a role in ensuring the Dunk Island brand was talked about and discussed in forums beyond Kidspot or a Dunk Island website. Once the winner visits Dunk Island with her family, she’ll write Dunk Island all over again and we will continue to reap the benefits of the blog,” Jeff Clements said.
“How am I feeling about the prize?” laughs Melissa. “I am beyond thrilled at the prospect of us coming to Dunk Island. My husband and I had to postpone our honeymoon seven years ago when we discovered one week after our nuptials we were expecting. Less than a year after our first baby, we were expecting twins, and there really hasn’t been time or finances since. So this holiday will be our honeymoon: three kids in tow and seven years late!” Fans can connect with Frills in the Hills on Facebook
