MANSFIELD -- Cherie Ferguson is having a fun time as prom season rolls around.
High school students are choosing to wear everything from traditional prom attire to gowns and tuxes with themes -- including camouflage.
"Huge this year is camouflage tuxes, the whole thing, jacket, pants and vest," said Ferguson, owner of Cherie's Bridal Mart grad dresses 2011, 2076 W. Fourth St.
"I've had students ordering them. We have camouflage couples going to prom, wearing the gown and tux in camouflage cheap guest dresses, from Lucas cheap Cocktail dresses, Shelby and Ontario schools," Ferguson said.
"Some of the students are arriving at prom on John Deere tractors. It's all about being unique and having a theme, whether it be John Deere pink prom dresses, a cowboy look ... or the 1940s Hollywood look," she said.
Ferguson said girls are choosing unique gowns.
"Girls are wanting jeweling on the dresses. They like multi-colored print, sweeping trains. This year it is a real mixture," she said. "Really bright, tropical colors are popular."
Some girls are going with an elegant 1960s look, similar to Jackie Kennedy's, Ferguson said.
Nationally ball gowns, short dresses are big, but Ferguson isn't seeing much of that trend locally.
"I am seeing the old glamour cheap short prom dresses, Hollywood look," she said.
For the guys, Ferguson said she has 110 color choices in tuxedos.
"And we are seeing a lot of different color choices. They're stepping out of the traditional, and moving into the more daring pinstripes, the old gangster look," she said. "We have a chocolate-on-chocolate stripe tux cheap prom dresses, and traditional black-and-white pinstripe with the hat, which are popular."
Drena McCurdy, owner of Theresa Ann's Bridal & Fine Clothing A-Line dresses, 20 Industrial Drive, Lexington, said girls are choosing a wide array of looks.
"I have girls buying long and short. Crazy colors are in prom dresses," she said. "I'm seeing dresses with all different colors. .... I am not selling a lot of sequins," McCurdy said.Topics related articles:
