Give it time. You don’t go from having a barren minor league system to being stocked in 1 or 2 years.

The increase was the largest since Major League Baseball began the slotting process, in which it recommends signing bonus levels to teams,Red Bull Hats, in 2000.
Gary, OCoelho…what planet are you guys on? Many latin american scouts were fired, not just the Yankee guys.

“Brackman is a freak…a potential superstar.” Is this the next coming of Randy Johnson?
the rise in signing bonuses for players who have never played a major league game is questionable….on one hand it is evidence of the power of the player’s union and player agents. on the other hand, it deepens the divide between rich, larger market teams and the teams that are, again and again, cheap Rockstar Hats, at the top of the draft.

Not only are the Yankees the only team not to sign their first round pick they did not sign their second round pick. They did however sign their supplemental pick between the 1st & 2nd rounds. A LHP who because of elbow problems only pitched in 4 games this year. A player not even listed on anyones draft charts is their highest signee. I don’t blame Gerrit Cole for going to college because the way these Yankees are being run I would run in the opposite direction. Gerrit Cole was listed as high as the 10th best player available but because of bonus demands dropped to the Yankees. Why get cheap on us now Mr. Cashman. To me a young RHP who throws 98mph with late movement that has all the scouts drooling is a better investment than Carl Pavano et al….Time for you to go out to pasture Mr. Cashman. You wasted the top two picks in the draft while the Red Sox got deeper and richer in prospects. This organization has taken a major step backwards this past year under Cashmans control. Push the button Hank!!!!
had the yankees invested more than 10 million dollars in its draftees, all the sports press would have been up in arms about the profligate steinbrenners, the yankee empire, and all that noise. but if another team, including the “new yankees” up in boston, does the same thing, it’s a “scary” (to wit, smart, out in front business dealing) trend that he rest of baseball better catch up to. talk about the influence of prior beliefs on ‘facts’…..
Compare to Boston:

The Red Sox are winning with their drafts. This is the difference between the two teams. CASHMAN MUST GO!!!!
According to Baseball America, the Red Sox may have spent more than $10 million on their draft picks. Considering the Red Sox recent draft success (and success on the field), the thought of the team pouring money into another draft should scare the rest of baseball. The Red Sox major league roster is full of home-grown talent including Jon Lester, Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury and Jonathan Papelbon.

NYT editor: Thanks.
They didn’t get cheap with Cole…Cole decided to go to college and declined to even hear an offer from the Yanks! It was a chance they took to get a guy who throws 98mph.
Brackman is a freak…a potential superstar. They picked him knowing he had an arm injury. The Yanks took a chance. Complain about it 2 years from now, not during the year of his surgery or next year when he recovers.

2006 Kennedy – 4A talent. Value plummeting fast.
2007 Brackman – 6′11″ project needed elbow surgery
2008 Cole – Opts for college.
CASHMAN MUST GO!!!
And their crack Asian team not only thought Kei Igawa was MLB material, they projected him as a number three starter from Day One!
This guy ranks up there with Isaiah Thomas when it comes to screwing up draft picks.
This year’s draft appears to have been the most expensive for team owners. The average bonus this year was $2,484,Wholesale Arizona Diamondbacks Hats,963 and that broke the record of $2,154,280 in 2001, according to Baseball America. What’s more, this year’s bonuses were an 18.4 percent increase from last.

Early this morning, I received a list of all of the signing bonus numbers and contracts for the first-round draft picks who were selected in June’s amateur draft. Players and teams had until Friday night to come to an agreement and it appears that only three players — one being Gerrit Cole, whom the Yankees selected with the 28th pick — did not sign with their teams. (Josh Fields, who was a senior at Georgia, can still negotiate and is expected to come to terms with Seattle.)
2003 Murphy – MLB – Starting OF TEX (Traded for Gagne)
2003 Papelbon – MLB – All-star
2004 Pedroia – MLB – All-star
2005 Buchholz – MLB – SP BOS
2005 Ellsbury – MLB – OF BOS (Starter)
2005 Hansen – MLB – RP PIT (Traded for Bay)
2006 Place – AA -Batting .240
2007 Hagadone – AA – First-Team All-Star
Yes, the sox have done better with the draft…but the Sox have also done better than ANYONE, other than the Rays (b/c they get the 1st pick every year). In Cashman’s defense, the guy only took full control recently…and put money into scouting when he took control. As a result, they got Kennedy and Joba….not bad if you ask me.
Below is a list of all the players who signed:
