Thumbs up Gambia: Third SAC Annual Basketball Summer Camp Kicks-Off ...

The Daily Observer (Banjul) Jama Jack 26 July 2011 The 3rd annual basketball summer camp organized by the Scholar Athletes for Change (SAC) yesterday kicked-off at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. The five-day camp will serve as an opportunity for P.E teachers, coaches and students from various senior secondary schools in the country to learn and share experiences in basketball. During the training, participants will also learn new things about the basketball game, such as the 3 on 3 contest, speed dribbling contest, screening, basketball fundamentals, among others. Speaking to Observer <a href="http://www.putianb2b.com/"><strong>莆田外贸之家</strong></a> Sports, Pierre Jallow, a Gambian based in the US, who is also the founder and president of SAC, said this year’s summer camp is the 3rd annual camp organised by his organisation in The Gambia. Jallow, who was playing basketball at the William Jewel College in the United States, revealed that the SAC wants to help and develop the skills of the P.E teachers and coaches to enable them go out and <a href="http://cms.putianb2b.com/"><strong>安福家*</strong></a> develop others. He emphasised on the importance of the game, as well as sports and education. According to him, the organisation will be organising an inter-secondary school competition in December 2011 for all schools in the country. Pierre Jallow is the organiser of the camp He stated that the students will do a lot of competition during the week-long camp and will receive prizes in the following competitions; the 3 on 3 contest, speed dribbling contest, camper of the year and writer of the year, among others. He further emphasised on the importance of sports and education, while <a href="http://cms.putianb2b.com/"><strong>莆田外贸之家</strong></a> urging participants to eat healthy foods, try to exercise everyday and sensitise the public, including students on the emergence of HIV/AIDS, among others. For his part, Malang Jasseh, director of Youths and Sports on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports commended Pierre Jallow for the initiative and for the efforts in improving Gambian basketball. He called on all to emulate Pierre Jallow in revamping basketball and bring back its lost glory. Jasseh also thanked the SAC Board Members for their support in making this year’s summer camp a reality.
