The Yankees had their first of two spring days off on Thursday,Police Sunglasses, as the gates at George M. Steinbrenner Field remained shuttered. No batting practice, no bullpens,cheap caps, no nothing.
Joe Girardi said that the day off was as much for the players as it was for the coaches, who deserved one — the players come and go during the day, with some at the ballpark for as few as three hours a day. But the coaches are among the first to arrive and the last to leave, and they deserved a day to kick back and relax a little.

Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy are using terms like saying that they are “hungry” again after the Yankees essentially handed them starting jobs last season, and that should make fans happy. Brian Cashman won’t commit to it, but you’d have to think Hughes and Kennedy are like the 6th and 7th starters,8 10 – Yankees at Rangers, should anything happen in the big leagues. They’ll get a chance eventually, but no one knows when it will be.
