Christian Louboutin is one of the world-famous brands. You can see that some celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, Janet Jackson and Nicole Kidman like wearing the Christian Louboutin shoes. The Christian Louboutin shoes are becoming more popular with new models and styles.
Louboutin is humble about the business he started in 1992 and still owns privately. The designer, who started his career at a Charles Jourdan factory in Nice, actually still likes to visit his stores and watch women try on his shoes.
He says he likes to sit there and watch, listen and learn. He recalls a recent visit to his Paris boutique, which he says is also the easiest way to go on to explain why his brand has worked the world over.
"I see myself as someone who started an adventure when he was young and was pretty lucky," says Louboutin, 46, who is in Miami attending the Art Basel show when we speak on the phone. "Everything is still a work in progress for me. I still drive my Vespa and I don't have my driver's licence. I just don't see myself as a brand."
"A woman arrived and she was ######y, almost too ######y, and she tried on my shoes and said, 'I look chic in this shoe'. Then literally half an hour later another woman arrives who was extremely elegant, extremely chic,Christian Louboutin shoes and she tries on the same shoes and says,Diesel T-Shirt, 'Oh, I look ######y in these'. You see, I add the little thing a woman doesn't have completely. I unveil what you may have hidden. The same shoe is going to be chic on one woman and ######y on another. That's very much my trademark."
"They have to be beautiful and be able to perform in those shoes. They cannot be saying, 'Oh, my feet are killing me'. I also know in every woman there's a showgirl."
The 12-centimetre heel and red sole are also Louboutin trademarks. And, believe it or not, a pair of Christian Louboutins are not $1500 torture devices. "There is this French saying that one has to suffer to be beautiful - I don't agree," Louboutin says.
He's hoping there are plenty of showgirls in Australia as well. The designer had planned to be in Sydney this week for the store opening but the trip has now been pushed back a year.
