Los Angeles (CNN) -- Doctors are concerned that Bryan Stow, the San Francisco Giants fan who was severely beaten outside the Los Angeles Dodger Stadium in late March, is accumulating fluid in his brain, according to physicians and his family's website.
The family website previously talked about possible surgery putting a shunt in Stow's cranium, but no such surgery has been scheduled, spokesman Frank Toscano of the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center told CNN on Friday.
For now, surgeons have opted to treat a "slight" brain fluid accumulation with medicine, hospital spokeswoman Rosa Saca told CNN in written remarks.
"There was discussion among the medical team of the probability of having brain surgery on Thursday or Friday due to slight fluid build up shown in a CT scan," Saca said Friday. "However the consensus of the team as of yesterday was to hold off on this while other measures were taken (medicine).
"Another measure is to begin slowly removing the anti-seizure medication that he has been on. These are not the same medications that he was on to keep him in a medically induced coma," Saca said.
"He continues to be monitored closely for signs of brain activity, including any seizures."
The family said they met with the head neurologist and Stow's surgeon earlier this week,
five fingers shoes, and "both agree that Bryan is not responding to stimulation as much as he should be," the website said.
On Wednesday, "it was decided to start lowering the eight medications he is on. The main objective is to keep Bryan from experiencing major seizures," the family said.
"He has been having seizure spikes but the doctors cannot keep 'chasing' those and still expect to try to check his reactions," the family website said. "So again we wait ... and pray."
Stow, 42, remains in a coma in critical condition, Toscano said.
Authorities said Stow suffered severe head injuries in an unprovoked beating in a parking lot outside Dodger Stadium after a March 31 Dodgers-Giants baseball game, the season opener for both teams.
Two men allegedly approached him in the parking lot and began kicking and punching him while yelling profanities about the Giants, police said.
