Reader Dhana asks: If an interviewer ask me, "Why should we hire you?,
Microsoft Office 2007 Professional," how should I respond? With this question,
Office 2010 Professional, your interviewer wants to understand the strengths you can bring to the team or company. An "ok" answer would be to say that you are smart, passionate,
Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, hard working, a quick learner, etc. But a better answer would explain specifics related to that job. You have experience with _____________ and that’s beneficial because _____________. You studied _____________ and that will bring a unique perspective because _____________. You are very passionate about _____________ and that will drive your motivation behind work on _____________. Your interviewer is trying to understand why you are unique and special so give examples, be specific, and stand-out. That said … Don’t let the interviewer off the hook with a question like that. An interview is a two-way street. Even though your job is to sell yourself as the perfect future employee, the interviewers are responsible for selling themselves as the perfect future co-workers, manager, employer, etc. And don’t settle for less. At the end the interview, be sure to ask, "If I am offered a job with your company,
Office 2007, why should I accept?" This question will not only generate a wide array of responses but it will remind the interviewers that they should be just as much in sell mode as you … even if they are the ones sitting in the comfy desk chair. Ask them to tell you why their company is unique and special and expect them to give examples, be specific, and stand-out. Make them work for your candidacy. And let your recruiter (or me if it’s a Microsoft interview!) know if they don’t. Go get 'em,
Office 2007! gretchen
