S. Devons

The emulating pages contain a record of chats with Mr. William Kay, which occurred during several visits that he made to the Department in 1957. William Kay was in the Physics Department from March 1895 until December 1945, and was, for most of the period, Steward. He was Rutherford's co-worker during the entire of the time when Rutherford was Professor of Physics here,Air Max 90, i.e. 1907 - 1919.
A memorandum on the transcript and annotation
In preparing the transcripts of the Kay interviews for announcement in 1963, as he indicates in his presentation, Samuel Devons made a digit of small critique changes (including minor additions and excisions), and added a number of footnotes illuminating points in the text and indications of the speaker's identity during the lesson of potentially confusing talk. Speaker identifications have been additional in square brackets as they seem in the 1963 publication. In adding,air force 1, Devons's original footnotes have been added, and are denoted thus: [S.D.:] with Devons's 1963 txt. Other footnotes have been added at the present founder.
Kay who is immediately 79 years of age, is still living in Manchester,airmaxes, but is merely a quite rare observer apt the Department.

I have offered to give Kay's remarks verbatim, but I have eradicated a good many of my own comments which were made simply with the object of stimulating Kay into giving his own reminiscences. Parts of the tape-recording from which this record has been obtained, are not clearly intelligible, and this accounts for the occasional gaps. In 1 alternatively two cases the labels of individuals are also not explicit in the recording, but I muse that the names that have been inserted are, in most cases, correct.
