There was controversy at the Super Bowl this year,Air Jordan 5, but not for what happened during the match, which was won by the New Orleans Saints. The headline grabbing stories are often around the event and not the actual match,Air Jordan 1, with the most infamous recent occasion being Janet Jacksons "wardrobe malfunction" in 2004. This time is was an advertisement which proved to be the talking point.
This advert was paid for by the anti-abortion Christian group, Focus on the Family,Air Jordan Retro 5, and contained the story of the birth of former College American Football player, Tim Tebow. His Mother,Nike Jordan 11, Pam,Nike Jordan Shoes, is captured talking about how she almost lost her son "so many times" and that he nearly didn't make it into this world. At the end of the advert a message appears telling viewers to visit the Focus on the Family website for the Tebow's full story.
The television advert itself doesn't say anything about abortion or any specific reason by Tebow was "a miracle baby". It is very vague and doesn't particularly strike the viewer. The PR and controversy around whether CBS should have shown the advertisement are the main reasons why people would have known that it was an anti-abortion message. If somebody only saw the advert, without looking at the website, or hearing anything about it, they wouldn't know what the advert was trying to say. The advert itself therefore isn't particularly successful in portraying the message.
The rest of the story is told on the Focus on the Family website. A video features both of Tim Tebow's parents telling the story of his Mother's pregnancy. His Mother tells how she was told to abort the pregnancy immediately if she was to survive, as there were medical problems. She goes on to talk about how "time after time" she thought she had lost him. In the end he was born healthy, according to the Tebow's,Jordan Space Jams,Cheap Jordan 5 Berlin researchers uncover new robots with finger, poignant feeli, because "God speared him".
Apart from Pam Tebow telling how she was advised to abort at the beginning of the video, there is not further mention of abortion until near the end. Viewers would only think there were some medical issues than threatened Tim Tebow's life and that of his Mother's, but everything turned out well in the end. The strong abortion message doesn't come until the end, when Tebow's Father is asked to advice young women who unexpectedly fall pregnant. He says that "God loves you and you baby",Nike Jordan 2011, and that even if it feels like an accident it wasn't. He goes on to say, "God loves you.... Don't kill your baby". This comes out of the blue as there is no prior anti-abortion message. Some viewers may have lost interest by this point, but if they haven't then the message can be quite striking.
This advert has been much discussed but has it been successful in putting across its message? In some ways it is clever as it is subtle, and viewers who saw the advert and website video will have realised the message they are trying to put across. However it is unlikely to effect people's opinion on abortion. Those who are against abortion under all circumstances may find these feeling enhanced,Nike Jordan 1, but people are unlikely to convert to this point of view. Throughout the entire video it is the Christian message in general that is portrayed and not abortion specifically. This lack of focus on the subject means there is only one stage when it is put across to viewers. Christians who had not previously thought much about the abortion debate might be made to think about their opinions, but non-Christians are already likely to be frustrated by the preaching message by this point. In a way they are talking to those who are already likely to agree with them.
