ARMONK, N.Y. - 08 Oct 2010: Data engineering experts predict that cellular and cloud computing will emerge because the most in-demand platforms for software software development and IT delivery about the following five many years, in accordance with a fresh IBM (NYSE: IBM) survey launched these days.

The 2010 IBM Tech Developments Survey, conducted on the internet by IBM developerWorks, supplies insight in to the most substantial enterprise technological innovation and business trends based on responses from two,000 IT developers and experts across 87 countries.

Based on the survey, more than half of all IT specialists – 55 percent -- expect cellular application software advancement for devices such as iPhone and Android, and even tablet PCs like iPad and PlayBook, will surpass software growth on all other traditional computing platforms by 2015.

With the proliferation of these cellular devices, sector analysts are predicting cellular applications sales will undergo massive development above another three decades, with estimates of cellular software revenues expanding from $6.2 billion this year to nearly $30 billion by 2013.

Supporting the growing number of software program developers creating new applications for cellular devices, IBM now offers no-cost mobile computing engineering resources, through IBM developerWorks, for software development on cellular platforms such as iPhone, iPad, HTML5 and Android.

IBM also today launched the first developerWorks mobile application for the Apple iPhone, providing developers around the world with cellular access to build skills and network with colleagues using the professional social networking platform, My developerWorks, built on IBM Lotus Connections.

Additional IBM Tech Developments Survey findings include:

“To best understand where enterprise engineering is headed, one must pay attention to those who have a pulse on market demands – the developers and IT professionals responding to these demands and creating another generation of business applications,” said Jim Corgel, general manager, IBM Independent Software program Vendors and Developer Relations. “These survey results clearly demonstrate that IT specialists see a combination of disruptive technologies and industry-specific expertise as key to driving near-term business progress.”

The on the internet survey, executed by IBM developerWorks of its eight million registered users in August and September 2010, includes responses from IT professionals with expertise in areas such as enterprise and web application growth, system and network administration, and computer software testing and architecture.

An on-line Market Resource Site that supplies technical resources, collaboration forums, articles, podcasts and tutorials on key IBM and open technologies-based best practices in banking, energy and utilities, healthcare, government and chemical and petroleum industries Technical information on the IBM Business Frameworks, a combination of software and hardware that bridges the gap between general purpose middleware and business specific business applications to help organizations apply technology more easily to their unique sector.
