Rejections of Famous Authors Before They Were Famous
?Writers who keep sending their work out ambition finally be published.
Among the rejection slips I've received, my preference was from a science fiction anthology: a full-page painting of a dragon dabbing at his eyes with a Kleenex like,0 its tears streamed down. It was many funnier than these lacking words be able to,0 narrate. I once showed it to a friend, also a science fiction author, who didn't find it very as amusing. It's a material of attitude; I couldn't do everything almost the refusal, and it was a change of pace from the usual, uninspired form letter.
If you have difficulty lingering motivated in the face of an distending file of rejection slips, maybe this account of remarks some now-famous writers received about their work will help.
* Crash by J.G. Ballard: "The inventor of this paperback is further psychiatric assist."
* Dr. Seuss: "Too assorted from other juveniles on the mall to justification its selling."
* Torrents of Spring by Ernest Hemingway: "It would be exceedingly putrid savor, to say nought of creature horribly bloody, should we want to issue this."
* The San Francisco Examiner, rejecting Rudyard Kipling: "I'm sorry, sell mbt shoes, Mr. Kipling, but you equitable don't understand how to use the English language."
* Lust for Life, Irving Stone's historical novel about Vincent Van Gogh: "A long, dim novel about an artist." Sixteen publishers rejected the novel. When it finally saw print it sold more than 25 million copies.
* Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach: "Jonathan Livingston Seagull will not make it as a book." The novel eventually sold to Avon Books and racked up bargains of more than 7.25 million copies.
* Tony Hillerman, best known for his Navajo Tribal Police mystery novels was exhorted by publishers to "Get rid of all that Indian stuff."
* The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells: "An infinite incubus. I do not believe it would 'take'... I consider the verdict would be 'Oh don't read that horrid book.'"
* Although Emily Dickinson published only seven poems in her lifetime, tods leather goods, an early rejection advised her: "(Your poems) are quite as amazing for defects as for beauties and are generally devoid of true poetical qualities."
* Animal Farm by George Orwell: "It namely impossible to sell animal stories in the America."
* So many publishers rejected The Tale of Peter Rabbit that Beatrix Potter published it herself.
* Lord of the Flies by William Golding: "An absurd and uninteresting phantom which was rubbish and dull."
* One publisher to another on John Le Carre's The Spy Who Came in From the Cold: "You're greet to le Carre--he hasn't got any hereafter."
* The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel: "We are quite impressed with the depth and range of your research and the quality of your prose. Nevertheless... we don't think we could distribute enough copies to satisfy you or ourselves."
* The Deer Park by Norman Mailer: "This will set publishing back 25 years."
* Carrie by Stephen King: "We are not interested in science fiction which deals with negate utopias. They do not sell."
And my favorite:
* Sanctuary by William Faulkner: "Good God, I can't publish this!"
Fiction amending is a subjective process. There will always be editors who think your prose is crap, but there are also editors who will be ardent about it. You just have to find them. And the only path to find them is to keep sending out your work.

MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology) was born in 1996 when we discovered that natural instability can have positive effects on the human body. We made this discovery by observing the wonderfully agile Masai people walking barefoot on natural, uneven ground. Seeing these people in action made us realize that the human body is simply not designed to walk or stand on the hard, flat surfaces of modern society. So we set out to develop a new kind of footwear, one that would mimic walking on soft, uneven ground. Tod's Group is an Italian company which produces shoes and other leather goods, and is presided over by businessman Diego Della Valle. It is most famous for its driving shoes.
