The remark was made after a U.S. Senate Democratic leadership group led by Reid was back from April’s visit in China.


“Chinese officials confirmed that China would continue the managed appreciation of its currency and were urged by the delegation to be more aggressive,” the report said, quoting a statement made by the group.

This has been a significant step, the statement said, since China’s currency policy has already led to "an imbalance of exchange rates that keeps the costs of Chinese products artificially low while the cost of U.S. exports to China unfairly high."
Analysts expect issues including China’s exchange rate and U.S. debt will be key of the dialogue. The United State will press further for yuan to strengthen its value; while China, the largest holder of U.S. Treasuries, has been more and more concerned over ballooning U.S. fiscal deficits.
