Overall: I think I would give the Solo HD’s a 7/10. The sound is great, but the comfort and design of how the headphones fit on your ears really aren’t great. They seem to be too bulky and annoying to wear for too long.
So I went to the Apple Store yesterday looking to buy a pair of headphones for school this year,
Beats by dre, and ended up buying the Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD Editions for $199.95. I ran home yesterday, did an unboxing and finally tested them out.
If you are looking to buy
Beats by Dr. Dre I would probably recommend getting the Studio editions and not the Solos.
Audio Cable: This is probably the highlight of the product. Monster makes a terrific audio cable that I think Apple should somehow implement with their iPod headphones. You can detach it from the headphones,
Beats by dre Studio, and there is a volume control and track button on the wire near the headphones. In addition the wire is red,
Beats by Dr. Dre, and is much thicker than the standard iPod headphones wires, and doesn’t get tangled. That’s right DOESN’T GET TANGLED!
Design: The design is very cunning with it’s three part system. Each headphone side hinges in,
beats by dre news, and you can put it in the nice tour carrying case that they give you. The one thing that I don’t really like about the Solo HDs is that they seem kind of bulky. Not in the sense of huge headphones, but they stick out a lot, and put pressure on your ears.
Sound: The sound was definitely high quality or high definition if you wanna call it that, but they did not really seem to outperform my Turtle Beaches X1 which I only got for $70. Overall though, there is good bass and the new HD editions have crisper highs and mids than the original solos had.
