Phil Jackson had some interesting comments about his former assistant Tex Winter's upcoming induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jackson told reporters Sunday that the honor came too late because Winter suffered a stroke in 2009.

"When Tex was verbally and cognizantly capable of receiving this award, I would have been much happier. The fact now that he's had a stroke that's impaired his capabilities, it kind of irritates me a little bit that this wasn't done 10 years ago when he was still serving basketball in such a great capacity."

Winter is the inventor of the triangle offense which Jackson has used to win 11 Championships with the Bulls and Lakers. Winter was a college coach from the 50's until the '80s when he joined Jackson's staff in Chicago. He is also the author of the 1962 book "The Triple Post Offense."
