An antiques dealer (and alleged gun runner) Manuel Montero is found dead in a Sacramento museum. Patrick Jane’s obsession with serial killer Red John deepens when Agent Hightower with the California Bureau of Investigation is suspected of murdering Montero.
- Todd Johnson, the fiancé of the murdered woman, vows revenge against the killer. Lisbon tries to persuade him against vigilante justice. Jane, who is having flashbacks of Red John’s killings, says he understands the need for revenge.
- The forensic report concludes that the gun used in these killings was also used to kill two other police officers in separate incidents, which means they are looking for a serial killer who is killing cops.
Initially, Jane thinks Hightower is guilty and that she has connections to Red John. Hightower is also linked to the unsolved murder of a suspect who died while in CBI custody. It’s La Roche who tells Hightower that she is one of five suspects. When investigators find her fingerprints at the murder scene,tods online shop, she becomes the prime suspect.

- A wannabe psychic, Ellis Mars hangs around the police station claiming to have information about the case. No one believes him but Jane eventually listens to his story. Jane feeds him information that allows him to convince the local police that he may really be psychic.

Two police officers and the fiancé of a third police officer are found murdered off of a rural road. CBI is called in to take the case.
- Jane convinces both the local police and Ellis Mars that the killer may return to the scene of the crime that night. Ellis wanders onto the scene hoping to spot the killer. Instead, he is spotted by the police and runs. The police are now convinced Ellis is their killer.

- Jane hides Ellis in a local motel. He brings Todd Johnson to the motel room and hands him a gun, telling him Ellis is the killer and he can take his revenge. Todd is perplexed. He asks Jane why he is setting him up since he knows Ellis didn’t commit the murders. Jane allows Ellis to leave the room.
Pinned by gunfire, Van Pelt cant use her gun, O’laughlin is the closest to Van Pelt. One of the suspects is closing in on her from her side, but O’laughlin doesnt move to cover her. Rigsby sees what is about to happen, calls for cover. O’laughlin doesnt move. Rigsby moves in, and manages to save Van pelt from being shot.
- Jane then accuses Todd of being their serial killer. At first Todd denies it but then admits to the killings and tries to kill Jane. Rigsby and Cho burst into the room and arrest Todd.
Jane confronts Hightower about her connection to Red John,tod's homme, and the wily agent takes Jane hostage before she gets arrested by the CBI team. Once Jane figures out that Red John is framing Hightower, he decides to help her flee capture. He lets her go and tells the rest of the team that she’s on the run. Hightower agrees to continue investigating the identity of Red John’s accomplices from outside the CBI jurisdiction.
- Jane sits at the hospital with Todd who regains consciousness for a moment. Todd turns to Jane and says “Tiger, Tiger” just before he dies.
- Todd refuses to talk to anyone but Jane. He says he has a secret message for him. When the guard escorts Jane into the holding cell they find Todd on fire. The guard puts the fire out but Todd will not survive his injuries. Lisbon surmises that a local cop may have set Todd on fire as revenge for the killings.
Against Hightower’s recommendation, Jane does not tell Agent Teresa Lisbon about his revelations that Red John is a CBI informant and Hightower is innocent because he’s concerned she could be in danger if she knew too much.

Van pelt’s gun is jammed. Van Pelt is meticulous. Almost OCD about procedure. it was one of the reasons she and rigsby broke up. She didnt want to lose her job over fratrnatization. Keeping her gun clean is procedure. Now that Van Pelt and O’laughlin are sleeping together, how ironic that her gun is jammed.
O’laughlin is either a coward. or is the mole. i chose B. mole.
O’laughlin is also involved in this case. At first i thought Todd had been connected to Red John, but when he says Tiger Tiger. It could be from the poem. “tyger tyger burn bryghtly.” but i thought what if it was a nick name. O’laughlin was on a football team back in high school. chances are that is what they called him.
What better way to throw suscipion to another member of law enforcement? la Roche didnt really investigate O’Laughlin’s whereabouts during the todd murder.  O’laughlin knows how to transfer HighTower’s fingerprints to an object, he also knows to get in and out of her place, so he could have framed hightower at anytime.
