RTM Compatibility Pack Released
I'll be taking some time off and visiting lovely Las Vegas starting tomorrow to celebrate the release of the RTM Compatibility Pack. If you remember my first post, the Compatibility Pack is what I've been spending a lot of my time on, so I'm pretty excited about this release. And while we've chatted about the capabilities of the Compatibility Pack already in my post on Opening & Saving Word, PowerPoint and Excel's new default file formats in previous versions of Office, I'd like to specifically call out what this release means: Microsoft Office customers that have stayed current with the updates released from Microsoft Updates and install the Compatibility Pack can open and save files in the Office Open XML formats before the RTM 2007 Microsoft Office system is available. Nice. Also, for all kinds of great information on Compatibility Pack and compatibility in general in Word 2007 (and the 2007 Office system as a whole) here's a first look at the Open XML Format Compatibility whitepaper, and of course you can always refer to Zeyad's excellent compatibility mode posts below.
