Rookie righthander Michael Pineda earned his first major league win with 7 1/3 strong innings as the Seattle Mariners topped the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 on Tuesday(wealthmass).
Ryan Langerhans hit a two-run homer and Minnesota Twins drove in a run for the Mariners, who won the first two games of the series after dropping seven straight. Pineda (1-1) was a surprise addition to the roster out of spring training, but certainly looked like he belonged on Tuesday as the 21-year old struck out seven and allowed five hits. His only spot of trouble came in the eighth inning when a passed ball and a single resulted in two runs.
Ricky Romero (1-1) pitched a complete game for the Blue Jays, surrendering two earned runs and five hits while striking out eight and walking two. His big mistake came in the third when Langerhans took the first pitch over the wall in right. Bradley followed later that inning with an Mlb Jerseys single. Brandon League worked the ninth for his second save.
