"The president underscored the importance of the U.S.-Pakistan relationship and our continued support for Pakistan," the statement said. "The president said he is looking forward to visiting Pakistan later this year."
It said President Zardari will attend a memorial service on Friday afternoon for Richard Holbrooke, the Obama administration's special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan who died of illness last month at the age of 69.
The Obama administration is desperate to show progress in the Afghanistan war, now into its 10th year. In his visit to Pakistan on Wednesday

The United States has been pressing Pakistan to step up its military efforts against the Taliban and al-Qaeda militants, saying they are using bases in northwest Pakistan to launch attacks on American and NATO troops in neighboring Afghanistan.
The Washington Post reported last week that the Obama administration has decided to offer Pakistan more military, intelligence and economic support and intensify U.S. efforts to forge a regional peace.
