The sun was shining through the windows, Sunday morning. It all seemed real enough that he had finally opened the shop of his dreams. Ice cool lemonade and the best steak and eggs, there is in Berlin Germany. Today there was no business at the little café. He has invited his mother and father to try the delicious food but it seemed intimidating to invite them over but after all, they may be his best food critics so it is worth the effort.
The restraint was small but big enough for a reasonable business. It consisted of many seating arrangements, which included the bar at the back and connected to a brand new kitchen. Beer was available. Germans are a great fan of the drink because it tastes so good; everyone was a fan, even Elijah. As time passed, Elijah became more nervous about the arrival of a customer or his parents. He occupied himself by cleaning glasses and wiping over the tables again. When he was finished washing, all he could do was to continue washing the bar with a rag. He looked at his watch, "It was almost half past three, where were they?" He thought.
Elijah was a man in his late 50's. A man of average height and he carried on the weight, much. His philosophy was that the more weight he carried on, the more proof to his customers that he enjoyed his job. He was a happy fellow, who worked hard for a living and he always managed to get to his goal. Luckily, he still had family comparing to most people his age. He had a love for food, German, Italian or Indian and it showed. If you could name your dish, he could make it, right on the spot. The best way to his heart was through his stomach because after all, he enjoys it.
Time was passing him by quickly and he was running out of patience. Patience is a virtue, he thought. He did wait, but not long because out of the blue, gun shots rang out outside. Horrified, Elijah ran to the outside of the two doors, stopped and stared at what he saw. All around him, woman and children ran in terror, screaming for their lives while German soldiers marched through the streets and shot them as if they were animals. Bombs were going off and landing on unexpected territory, first on the town's library and Mary's floral shop. Everything was crumbling in front of his eyes. Terror ran through him that he did not know what to do. All he could do was look. Look longer… He stood there, trying to find a way out but there were places to escape to.
"Elijah!" A voice screamed. He turned his head to sound and say his mother, lying on the ground next to his dead father's corpse."Mom!" He Yelled after her. His mother was pleading and crying for her life. She reached her out her arms to her son. Tears flowed from her eyes. She mouthed out her son's name. All was lost when that moment came. Elijah's mother was shot in the chest. She stopped, her eyes glowing white, gasped for air and gagged. As she collapsed, she looked at her son. She was dead within an instant. Tears welled up in Elijah's eyes but he couldn't cry. A man could not cry, it did not show his masculine side at all. It was not to be little boy again, who asked for his mother for comfort. But no, she was dead and so was he. What was he going to do? Another shot rang out and missed Elijah by a mere few inches. He ran back into his safe little store, running into chairs and knocking over tables. He ran and ran till he got to the kitchen. He then grabbed a knife and hid behind a large counter and waited. Time had frozen; his only family has disappeared from his existence. The door's bell went off, someone came inside. He dared not look, not yet. The sound of his footsteps became louder as they got closer. Elijah looked to his knees. There at the floor, there was the knife. He looked around again desperate for another hideout; he looked at his shirt pocket. There was the Star of David. He was forced to wear this earlier to prove of his heritage so he hid no choice. Why was begin Jewish such a bad thing? Why was everyone killing one another because of their religion? There would be no hope in wondering since he was inches from death."Anyone there?" The man asked curiously.
There was a pause of silence. He knocked over pans, silver ware and plates out of the cupboards. The sound was terrible and heart wrenching. What was he here to do? Go out and fight? No. He thought. He might have to fight. It was his time to defend his parent's death. It was time for hell to break loose. He would never be the same man again if he chooses to kill this man but this was a fight of life and death, not pride. Elijah grabbed his chef's knife. Slowly as he rose, Elijah looked at the solider that was still occupied with his own work, stopped and looked at Elijah.
"So here is that ass that I saw earlier?" He exclaimed. "I'm not here to play games. You see, pride is how I look at it. If the cat catches the mouse, you gain something from that. And do you know what that is?" He said.Elijah stared at him, and said nothing. Silence ruled them but was broken. The solider came after him and took him by the neck and hung him up high."Well, do you?" He yelled. Elijah was choking, he couldn't breathe but he still wouldn't speak. Even if it would cost him his life, it was for the better. More time to occupy him. Elijah was still holding his knife in his right hand, ready for the kill but he could not bring himself to it. He was dieing but no one could help him out of this. The soldier was staring at him with beady eyes. It was time now that he knew what to do.
Rachael Stevens had been sitting at her desk for quite some time. There wasn't any word in anywhere in this small town of Bevelle. Gossip problems were solved among the civilians of the town so there wasn't any great advice to share in the High Way News. No accidents or deaths were even happening. She sighed and picked up the news paper from another area and began to read. She suddenly landed upon an article entitled, "Haunting in Café stirs questioning".
"What could be frightening about a dumb café?" She thought to herself. It told of a haunting of an old man dressed in white, who in fact could not be seen though it scared the wits of anyone who went inside his kitchen. She lay down her paper which caused her to spill her coffee."Maybe it was worth it." She thought. She went online and searched online for plane tickets to Germany. "Maybe I'll find something worth while." She packed her bags and laptop and hurried out the door.!$!$#$#!(#)(#&#&!$##$##!&#(!(#&(&
Rachael had arrived in town on time. She was looking for adventure for her boring life. Anything would do. She asked the locals about the old café in town but no use. They refused to answer her questions. The town of Bevelle did not like visitors and neither did they like the café either. They say it gave bad luck to anyone to ever mention it. Rachael was on her on and she did not like it. Rachael was not very good with directions, not since traveling to her parent's house that one year. She struggled with the wrinkly map, turning it sideways and upside down. As she walked deeper into town with the map in her face, she came upon a door by running into it. "Ouch" She said. Rachael rubbed her head and quickly recovered. It surprised her. She opened the door and went inside. The door shut behind her and went "click"."Oh no" she ran to the door and tried to pry it open but it there was no use."Well, might as well enjoy myself while I'm here." She looked around the café. She thought there was no use worrying over angry spirits. The café had a calming and sleepy atmosphere. She grew wary because the café was so old, it could fall on her. As she slowly looked around, adidas outlett, she noticed a couch suitable to lie on. She walked on over to it and sat down. As time passed she became more tired. She yawned and went to sleep.
When Rachael has awoken from her peaceful slumber, she was surprised to see the café, brand new. Tables, chairs and even the bar! Decorations of fancy ribbons hung high around her. It was pretty nice she thought."What was I going to do now?" She asked no one. No one was here and that was the truth. No music played, just her breathing. When she came to be, she decided to ring the bell at the front desk, near the bar. When she got there, she rang it so loud that it hurt her ears."Anyone there?" She asked.Shuffle of feet came from the kitchen. As she awed with wonder, a old man came out of the kitchen. With a smile on his face, he came to her. "How may I serve you?" He said with a cheerful tone. His face was still smiling as he waiting for an answer from her. Rachael was just shocked that someone even answered at all.#&#&#&$&#(,belstaff españa!&#)(&!#&##&##(#&&#(
"Ugh…." she grumbled. The man smiled."My name is Elijah and I know exactly what you came here for.""You do? She said astonished."Of course!" he said. "You sit here and I'll be right back!" Elijah then ran to his kitchen. "I am a little hungry" She said to herself. Well just then he came out with a plate of steak. "That smells delicious!" She said. He put it down on the table, along with a tall glass of lemonade.Rachael was starving so much that her mouth watered. She ate her way through but stopped midway."Will this cost me?""Of course not, you're my first customer.""That's great! This is so good! You are such an excellent chef!"He smiled. "Thank you."
Rachael was famished."Did you enjoy it?""Of course!" She said.
Elijah picked up the leftovers and went to the kitchen to clean up. During that time, Rachael was looked around. On the shelf in front of her, she spotted an old photo of the waiter. It was an old photo, maybe around the 1940's. Black and white but it seemed peaceful. It was the 20th century and it made her wonder. How old was this guy? She couldn't ask…it would be rude… Actually the man in the picture looks like a relative of hers. Yeah that's right. She had seen it before while looking through a photo album back when she was 9. Elijah came out of the kitchen."Excuse me." she said. "What is your name?"Elijah looked at her for a moment. "My name is Elijah Stevens."
"Really? My name is Rachael Stevens. Do you think we are related somehow? When were you born? She seemed nosy to him."Well…Maybe we are…" "He seemed insulted."Maybe I do but I don't know. Sorry I could not help." Rachael seemed disappointed at his answer but went along with it."Well thanks anyways" As she got up and walked to the door. She gave one last glance at the lonely man."Thanks for the meal." She then walked out the door in a room full of white light.
Rachael woke up with a startle. Maybe it was all a dream? Well it couldn't be. It all seemed too real, wholesale coogi jeans! She didn't think it had been a dream after all. She had been hungry when she came here but she's not. "I think I had spent too much time in this creepy place." She thought. It was time to go home.
"HOME SWEET HOME!" she yelled. She plopped on to her bed. What a day. But what about that man the other day? Who was he? Rachael got up and went to her closet. She looked through her items of clothes till she came upon a dirty old photo album."I haven't seen this in years." She thought. As she searched through her album, there he was. That old man but the only difference was, he has a few grandchildren with him. Well how can that be? She turned the page and there it was. It was her great grandmother. Happy as can be with her husband. The banner signed, Mr. and Ms Stevens Wedding June 1957. So she knew him after all. The man as the dinner was her grandfather. "I never had known him but I wish I could have known him better." She closed the album and put it back where she had found it. She went out of her way to find something and she found it. Family.
