David Wells — Always Throwing, Always Talking

While watching David Wells, as round as ever, pitch six clever innings in San Diego’s 5-1 victory over the Mets on Monday night, it was hard, as always, not to wonder how good the left-hander might have been if he focused more on conditioning throughout his career.

But Wells does not care about running 7-minute miles,Metal Mulisha Hats, which is how Roger Clemens begins each off-season workout. Wells has succeeded his way. And Wells will surely have a belly laugh (sorry,cheap Minnesota Twins Hats, I couldn’t resist) if he is the pitcher in his mid 40’s who ends up in the postseason, not Clemens.
Wells and Clemens have no use for each other. Wells’s dislike for Clemens dates back to at least 1999 when the Yankees traded him to the Toronto Blue Jays for the future Hall of Famer. Wells hated leaving New York and considered anyone associated with the trade a jerk.
Four years later, Wells made his distaste for Clemens public in his book, criticizing the deal and saying most of the Yankees hated Clemens for plunking batters while Clemens was with the Jays. Wells, who was teammates with Clemens at the time, graciously mentioned that Clemens was the premier pitcher of his generation, too.
In addition, Wells said that if he was Mike Piazza during the 2000 World Series, he would have retaliated when Clemens threw a hunk of Piazza’s bat at the hitter. What Wells said he would have done is unprintable on a family blog.
Clemens, who is no Jerry Seinfeld,Cheap NBA Hats, had a tidy comeback to Wells’s book as he nicknamed the pitcher “Eli” for “He lie.”
Clemens added, “Because if a story goes over 30 seconds, he’s lying.”
When Clemens signed a 1-year,A&F Hats, $28 million contract with the Yankees two months ago, the deal included a family clause that allows him to miss certain road trips. Wells criticized,cheap Seattle Mariners Hats, that, too,HOT Styles Sale, saying it shows “disrespect” to the team and teammates.
Clemens said Wells should “look in the mirror,” which could have been a reference to Wells leaving Game 5 of the 2003 World Series after one inning because of a back injury. Did Wells’s girth have anything to do with his bad back?
While Clemens gets much more attention than Wells,cheap San Francisco Giants Hats, Wells might outlast him. Wells threw several knuckleballs against the Mets, a pitch that is not taxing on the arm. With that pitch in his arsenal, Eli might keep going and going, tweaking Clemens along the way.

I know exactly what Wells said he would do with the bat. I always thought that Piazza should have stopped what he was doing and put the bat there. Clemens was always a head hunter when he did not
have to stand in the box.
Another reason to hate the designated hitter rule.

Whether fans like him or not,More Brand Hats,Roger Clemens is one of the all-time great pitchers.And he has been pitching very well for the Yankees.He only gave up one each to the Angels and Blue Jays.His win against the Twins was a dominant performance.It will be good to have Roger Clemens pitching in big games in September.The Yankees have won 11 out of their past 15 games and are strongly contending for the playoffs.Boston has now lost 8 of their last 11 games.I hope these trends continue.
