Default Fennel and Fern » Californian poppy

If you’re looking for a super-quick, super-gorgeous fix for your garden, scatter a few Californian poppy (Eschscholzia california) seeds around, and soon you’ll be surrounded by cheery orange flowers. Image by Anthony Hammond This is the ultimate low-maintenance plant. Once you’ve got it in your garden, you’ve got it forever, not in an invasive way, but in a cheerful, helpful, self-seeding sort of way. This is perfect if you are a lazy gardener. Californian poppies also thrive in drought conditions, which means you don’t have to pay them much attention. It also makes them perfect candidates for guerilla gardeningÂ*as you won’t need to return to water them mbt shoes sale or deadhead them, or really sow them the follow year. I’ve found a miserable patch of bare ground in my own town where I will be sowing a batch of them next spring in an attempt to cheer everyone up. If you are the sort of gardener who needs to do at least something to your plants so that you feel in control, deadhead your Californian poppies every once in a while to ensure as long a display as possible. Other than that, there really is nothing you can do at all. Image by Michael Verhoef If you have a garden that focuses on cooler shades than the blaring orange of the species Eschscholzia, then plant the beautiful E. california ‘White Linen’, pictured above. Or mix the two cheap mbt shoes together for a gorgeous two-tone display.
