On April 16, hundreds of musicians will descend upon the Madisonville riverfront for the seventh annual Acoustic Jam Fest from noon to 6 p.m.
Each year, more and more musicians and music lovers gather on the riverfront for the event that is open to musicians both young and old, regardless of skill level. They then play some good old-fashioned "back porch" music in a great jam session that includes guitars,Microsoft Office 2010 Product Key, dulcimers, mandolins, upright basses, accordions and harmonicas and more.
Organizer Harry Wood got the idea of a string fest from his travels to Mountain View, Ark.,Microsoft Office 2007, where he participated in acoustic jams. He started out by posting fliers around town inviting anyone who could pick,Office 2010 Key, play or sing to bring their instrument and participate as long as they did not use an amplifier.
The first two years of the Acoustic Jam Fest was held at his home on the Tchefuncte River. But it wasn’t long before the event grew too big to be held there,Office Professional Plus 2010 Key, so Wood got the approval of the mayor and town council to hold the event on the riverfront.
At noon,Office 2010 Pro Key, musicians can check into Madisonville Town Hall where they receive a meal and drink ticket that provides them and their spouse with complimentary jambalaya, soft drink and beer. Musicians walk around the riverfront with their instrument in hand until they find a group of musicians they want to join.
The public also is invited to attend the event free of charge. They are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket, a picnic lunch and enjoy the music.
Wood said no preregistration is required. Musicians simply can show up with their instruments or singing voice and have a good time.
