[UPDATED 3/13/11] Support Supplied for those Impacted by Earthquake in Japan

Durham, NC -- Since the affect of your devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan unfolds, Duke is carefully monitoring the situation and extends its ideas and prayers to your people affected by this catastrophe.
As of Sunday, the university had accounted for all Duke-affiliated travelers who it absolutely was aware of being in Japan, and none was in any hazard.
"We are conscious of a lot more than 40 students that are in Japan and in other places inside the Pacific and around the West coast from the U.S.," explained Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president for Human Resources and Duke's emergency coordinator. " We now have confirmed the whereabouts of some college students and carry on to perform to determine the position of others."

Students in impacted areas are becoming encouraged to stay in speak to with their program leaders. Support for any Duke student, faculty or staff member abroad on a Duke program is available through the university's travel assistance program.

Duke also will be reaching out to college students on campus whose families may have been impacted by the catastrophe. College students on campus who need assistance services should make contact with Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), and faculty or staff in need of help should get in touch with the Personal Assistance Service (PAS).
