Low energy, high impact hair
Four ways make your crowning glory look great without tongs or blow dryer

Relaxed chic hair at Aveda

Playing around with different hairstyles can be fun but it can cause havoc with its condition.
This spring, we’ve taken a look at some of the best hairstyles that won’t have our hair screaming out for mercy!
We think this off duty model hair, (main picture) as styled by Antoinette Beenders for Aveda, will be the perfect way to make sure our hair is stylish, climate friendly and well looked after.
Hair tends to be softer when it’s left to dry naturally, but if you can’t bear to fly solo without your hairdryer, simply rough dry it. Babyliss have a fabulous eco hairdryer for £19.99, available from Nigel’s Eco Store.
You will need
Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion, £17.50
Aveda Air Control Hair Spray, £16
Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray, £17.50
Products available from Aveda.
1. Sprinkle Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion throughout your hair for matte texture. Massage with fingertips at the roots for slight volume.
2. Gently backcomb hair at the crown, using a wide-tooth comb to create a textured, ultra roughed-up look, while leaving the ends of the hair untouched. Spray with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray for a light hold.
3. Using a Mason Pearson brush, pink straighteners, loosely brush the top of the hair back to smooth backcombed portions. Allow hair to part naturally.
4. To create the textured, half-up style, twist and pull one-inch sections from above the ear on each side of the head. Use bobby pins to secure the entwined pieces at the occipital bone at the back of the head (the bit which juts out!).
5. To keep the haphazard look from being untidy, finish with a holding mist of Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray.
Here are three other styles we’re rocking this spring:

Top knot, top notch
Take inspiration from the BAFTA winning film Black Swan with a dainty hair bun. Your hair will look sophisticated and polished, and because you are tucking the ends in nobody will know if you have split ends (we can keep a secret!)
You will need
Daniel Field Smooth Serum, £6.25
Body Shop Paddle Hairbrush, £8
Green People Volumising Hair Mist, ghds, £9.95
1. First prep hair with Daniel Field’s organic Smooth Serum and distribute evenly from root to tip to ensure your hair is silky smooth. Focus on the ends of your hair which can end up damaged through heat styling.
2. Use a natural bristle paddle hairbrush to brush your hair and pull it upwards  towards the crown.
3. Fix hair into a high ponytail.
4. Next, twist the hair and bring it back into the ponytail. Make sure you’re covering the hair bobble and fix with some bobby pins (which you can pick up at Superdrug for £1.39) to pin back any flyaway ends.
5. Finish with a spritz of shine spray, we love Green People Volumising Hair Mist.
Heidi plaits
Add plaits to your hair for a quirky look. This hairstyle is not only practical, but the next day you can take them out to reveal luscious wavy hair. Perfect, and you didn’t even have to reach for the the curling tongs.
You will need
MOP Glisten Shine Drops, £13.45
Davines Defining Volume Mousse, £11.80
Fushi Total Repair Dry Hair Balm, £17.32
1. Use MOP’s Glisten Shine Drops on damp hair after washing and towel dry. Apply 1-3 drops onto the palm of your hand and work through hair. This will help protect your hair and replenish it.
2. Apply volumising mousse to add body to your hair- we love Davines Defining Volume Mousse.
3. Part your hair how you prefer, either in the middle or to the side, using a small tooth comb. Continue the parting all the way round to the back of your head in a straight line.
4. Next, separate your hair into two sections to form two low ponytails. Smooth ends with Fushi’s Total Repair Dry Hair Balm, which will repair your hair.
5. Braid one of the ponytails and then do the other one. Tie them each with clear hair bands.
6. Now that you have your braids, cheap ghds, all you need to do is pin them up onto the crown with bobby pins. Pull the braids one at a time and secure them with the pins. You may want to use pins the same colour as your own hair so you won’t be able to see them. And you’re done!
Wet look hair
Be like our favourite People Tree model Emma Watson and wear your short hair slicked back. She recently attended an awards ceremony with wet look hair – definitely a winner.
You will need
Seal & Shine Leave-In Conditioner, £6.49
Simply Soaps Hair Sculpting Pomade, £8.50
1. After washing your hair and leaving it to dry naturally, spray Seal & Shine Leave-In Conditioner from root to tip to make sure it’s in tip top condition.
2. Put a 50p sized piece of Simply Soaps Hair Sculpting Pomade onto the palms of your hands and run it through your hair.
3. If you want to accessorize this look, add a cute hair ribbon.
