Connections FAQ:

How do I edit the the top links?
Find the header template in your theme editor area inside WordPress admin (Presentation>>Theme Editor) . Replace the “#” signs with the corresponding urls.
Can I change the top image and/or the color scheme?
Yes. Feel free to change them to suit your needs.
Can I make the theme wider?
Not at this point, unless you know how to edit the background and top image and make the necessary ajustments in the css and template files. This isn’t a setting you choose, the theme was built to have a certain fixed width.
Is there a 3 column version of this theme?
Not at this point.
I need help customizing this theme. Can you help me?
Yes, but I charge for this service. Get in touch if you’re interested.
Can I remove the credit link from the footer?
Not if you want to use the theme for totally free. If you want or need to remove the credit link, you need to purchase a commercial license. This applies to all versions of Connections, including the ones available for download from other sources and modified versions. Get in touch for details.
Can I use the theme for a commercial website?
No, in this case you also need to purchase a commercial license. This rule doesn’t apply to blogs using AdSense, feel free of charge to use Connections on your AdSense powered blog.
Is there a widgetized version of Connections?
Yes, Connections Reloaded is a modified version of the original theme and it supports widgets among other features. it was developed by Ajay and you can get it here. Keep in mind that even though this version has more features, the original design was affected in some ways and it doesn’t look as harmonious as a whole.
Are you releasing your own widgetized version of Connections?
I have been promising this for a long time, along with other features and updates, but I haven’t had the time to finish it yet. If/when it’s available, it will be released here.
I downloaded a different version of Connections from a different source. Does the license terms apply to it?
Yes. The license terms apply to any variation of the original theme, including versions that were ported to other platforms and CMSs.
I would like to use Connections on my wordpress.com blog…
The theme is available to all wordpress.com users. Just select it from the available themes to activate it.
FLEUR-DE-LYS:

how very strange, i had been reading a MT vs WP debate yesterday and decided firstly to start a blog (are you ever too old to blog!?) and also to go with WP this morning.
your connections theme was the first to catch my eye so i downloaded it. now strangely, 12 hours and 100’s of clicks later, quite perchance, i seem to have actually stumbled upon your very site. what a very happy coincidence!

Patty, thanks for Connections! My blog uses your template now and I love it.
I wanted to display categorized links. I modified the theme’s index.php use “get_links_list()” instead of “get_links()”
“Displays a nested HTML unordered list of all links as defined in the Links Manager, sorted under link category headings. Link categories are automatically generated inside of [h2] headings.”
But when I do, I get a big ugly bullet next to the link category.
How would I alter the style.css file to fix this? I would be deeply grateful.

i think the problem started when i’ve used a different size for the sidebarnav_top and bottom. ive adjusted the width but it’s not working. can you point me what part of the CSS to edit this?
also, i want to put the_excerpt tag on the index file. where can i insert this tag? thanks for the help!

Hi Patricia!
I absolutely LOVE this theme and appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into this. THANK You!!
But I’ve got to ask though – is there any way to keep the browser text size setting from throwing off the all the links and everything in the side column? I thought being CSS that the browser text size setting wouldn’t affect this, but it does and I’d love to figure out a way to bring that back under control.
I don’t know much about CSS, but I’ll play with this myself and see if I can figure out a workaround.
Thanks so much!

Connections is great theme. I’m playing with it on a new blog. But for the life of me… where on earth is the “Meta” section tossed into the bottom of the sidebar!!?? I’m not exactly a newbie to WP themes or WP programming in general, but I can’t seem to locate this damn section. Arggh.
The last thing in sidebar.php is bloginfo(’comments_rss2_url’);. Footer.php has nothing relevant… What a mystery. Can you clue me in?

Patricia, mucho thanks for a great theme, i’m using Wordpress for quite some time now and like the way they handle stuff, like provide service around the clock, i spent many hours in the Support area and met a lot of helpful folks… but i wanted to change themes, nothing there i liked, so i just made minor changes to the exisiting one, later named ‘carrots’… and yesterday i took a stroll again, to see if there were new themes around and i liked yours at once! a woman’s touch is just what i needed, you did a very well job, my compliments.
now i will have to really get into it so i can move a little of the furniture around,Pandora Bracelets Sale, but otherwise i’ll stick with your design,
best,
Gina

I just upgraded to WP2.1 on my weblog and it has been pointed out to me that the upgrade changed some features that used to be available to them under 2.0x.
For example, although the sidebar archives show the correct count for posts, only 10 are available, and the “Next page” link that would ordinarily have been found there (and on the main page as well) no longer exists.
I don’t quite understand how that’s possible,Using Gmail with screen readers - Gmail Help, since the basic Connections CSS hasn’t changed. Has anyone else noticed this?

Connections has been my theme almost since the beginning of my use of Wordpress. I’ve tweaked it many times but it always looked very close to the original theme. I am still using Connections as my theme, but I’ve tweaked it so much that it no longer looks anything like Connections! I took my inspiration from the Cherry Blossom theme that I had on this site for a good 12 hours last night. But that theme was too minimalistic for me and by adding all the stuff I wanted, I would take away from the beauty of its minimalism. So, I kept the black and pink theme of the cherry blossoms and tweaked the Connections theme to my liking. I’m concerned about a report that lists the connections WP Theme as among the top 10 most word press theme to use.
I noticed even though I installed the captcha plugin to cut down the comment spamming, spam comments seem to be making it through to the blog.
I know for a fact that the entries that count as spam were not made by manual submission.
But what I need to know from the connections template designers: Have you validated this templated to check and identify loop-holes and possible security breaches?
The truth is I like using this template as it give a smooth feel to users and having customied the blog to incluse so many adjustments I would be in tears having to realign my blog with another template.
And again, will there be an upgrade to this template to make it “widget aware” as the sidebar functionalities are all over the place and none of the sidebar widgets seem to work with this template hence something needs to done about that to keep your fans happy

I am starting tolike this theme more and more.
initally i wasn’t a fan of green, but once it let me add my own header, I’ve become alright with the theme itself.
thanks .
