Default Radii Strangler Shoes Fragment

I was sitting in History class last week , listening to my teacher give a lecture, when this guy walked in, all dressed in black. He was even wearing a black ski mask. I wondered how he got to the classroom without being noticed, then realized that he had been studying everyone in the room, only to have his gaze come to rest on me.
"You." He said to me. "What is your father's name?"
A little suspicious, I replied, "Before I answer that, I have two questions of my own." I was aware of everyone staring at me.
The man nodded once.
"Do you want my step-father's name or my biological father's name? And why do you need to know?"
"I want your step-father's name, and as for why, that will be explained later."
I heard a faint click behind me as a classmate activated her cell phone. I agreed with her; I didn't like how this was going, either. The man extended his hand, and I looked at my teacher, Ms. Gressop. She shook her head no, but a plan was already forming in my head. I gave her a reassuring smile, then stood up, watching the man while I approached the door. I heard my classmates squirm in their chairs.
The man's face was covered, so it was hard to tell what he might be thinking, but his eyes seemed to smile.
I began to contemplate the execution of my plan. . . .
The man reached for my arm, but I pulled away. "I won't run."
Seeming to trust me, the man returned his hand to his side and left the room, indicating I should follow.
Before I left I said quietly to my teacher, "I have a plan. Don't call the police; I'll be back to let you know I'm all right." Then I left.
The man was waiting for me at the school's east entrance. "What did you say to them?" He asked me.
"I told them not to call the police."
"Good." For some reason this guy really seemed to trust me; it was somewhat unnerving. He opened the door and held it as I walked through, then followed me outside. "My vehicle is over there." He pointed to a sleek black sports car a short distance away. The vehicle's windows were tinted.
We approached the car and I opened my door, but before I got in I said, "I need to go to my house."
"Why?"
"You don't expect me to go with you without being prepared, do you? I need tampons."
The man faltered slightly. "All right."
I smiled inwardly as got into the car, pleased that I had gotten this seemingly indifferent kidnapper to feel uncomfortable.
When we were both inside the vehicle with our seat belts engaged, my 'captor' started the engine and moved out of the parking lot, turning in the direction of my house.
"You never answered my question."
"My step father's name is Aurthur Wildred." Seeming satisfied with my answer, the man fell silent.
When we arrived at my house, I got out of the black car and made my way to the front door. The family car was gone on a business trip, but with the arrival of this mysterious man in black, I was beginning to reconsider the story that I had been fed by the school secretary that morning.
Retrieving the spare key from under the doormat, birkenstock leather, I unlocked the door and entered my home. My first order of business was to call the school and inform the office that I wouldn't be at school for the rest of the day; when the secretary asked why, I simply claimed that I had been picked up from school by a friend of my dad's.
When I was finished with the phone, I went into my room and approached my closet. Checking to make sure that no one outside could see me, I opened the sliding door and moved my hanging clothes aside so that there was a huge gap in my closet. Upon detecting light, a small keypad emerged from the rear wall, and I punched in the series of letters which made up my password, then hit Enter.
Immediately a hissing sound emanated from the wall, which then slid to the left reveal a small compartment only I and three other people knew about. Inside was the latest in the government's flight technology, jimmy choo shoes uk, designed for one- to two-man missions requiring great amounts of stealth and mobility.
I reached into the compartment and pulled out my jet black flight suit. The outfit looked more like the type of suit worn by a scuba diver, with a pair of large feathery wings folded up on the back. Also included with the suit were a matching pair of boots, fingerless gloves, and a full-face helmet with a built-in communications headset; everything was ebony black. The best part, though, cheap radii, was that each piece of the suit was completely bullet-proof. This, however, was not the most amazing aspect of it.
Invented a short six months before this particular day of my life, the suit was known as FreedomFlight and was as of yet the smallest, most self-contained flying apparatus known to man. The wings themselves were made of artificial, man-made muscle, enormous plastic feathers, bullet-proof cloth, and bones consisting of a honeycombed aluminum-titanium alloy. The air pockets in the metal bones were filled with helium to make them lighter, and the 'blood' supplying the muscles was a bluish gel filled with microscopic super-conductors which amplified the electrical signals from the brain. The suit possessed a 'plug' at the base of the collar that I had to insert into the back of my head if I wanted the suit to 'work'. Each suit also contained a harness disguised as a backpack that fit over the folded wings. Any person walking down the street might be wearing a book bag on his back or a harness designed to look like one, but it was impossible to tell which was the one who could fly.
All of this went through my mind as I stripped down to my underwear and changed from my push-up bra into a sports bra. Carefully lifting my suit off of the floor,Radii Strangler Shoes, I unclipped the fasteners on the front and slipped into the custom-made outfit, then secured the front of the suit and bounced on my toes. I savored the satisfying weight of the wings against my back before I pulled on my gloves. My boots only took me a minute to get on my feet since I had practiced putting them on until I could tie them with my eyes shut. As soon as they were laced up nearly to my knees and tied, I closed the compartment in the back of my closet and replaced my clothes so that nothing would appear amiss.
That's when I heard the front door open.
Before my kidnapper could enter the house and spot me, I grabbed my harness off of my work desk and put it on over my wings, kicking my helmet into an out-of-sight place under my bed. I placed my hand on the back of my neck, inching it upward until I felt the small hole in the base of my skull where the suit would connect with my brain. If I were to plug the suit in now, I would need at least two minutes to let my brain process the 'new' body parts before I could even attempt to fly. Now that this guy was walking in on me, I had no time at all!
Suddenly a thought occurred to me.
"HEY!" I yelled. "I'll be out in a minute! No need to violate my privacy!"
The footsteps stopped for a moment. "Well, hurry up," the man said impatiently, "Our flight leaves in an hour." Then he went back outside.
I grinned. 'Your flight might be leaving in an hour, but mine leaves in exactly two and a half minutes.'
I reached behind me to the back of my suit and pulled the little plug from its hiding place at the base of the collar. Slipping it into its port with one hand, I bent over and grabbed my helmet with the other. Once the plug was securely attached to its contacts in my head, I slid my helmet on and flipped the visor down, then opened my southern bedroom window and pushed out the screen. A minute and a half was left on the countdown.
I lifted my left foot over the windowsill and moved my body after it. My right foot followed. I lowered myself to the ground and pressed myself against the house, taking a deep breath. One minute remained.
My kidnapper, becoming more impatient, could be heard walking in the front door again, and I moved around the corner of the house to the western side, making my way toward the neighbor's. Taking a chance, I sprinted across the lawn and through the open gate, ducking around the corner of the Hatchet house just before my captor entered my now vacant room. A huff of anger could be heard as my inner timer reached the half-minute mark. Thirty seconds left.
The mysterious man wasn't so mysterious without his ski mask, which he ripped off, revealing blonde hair and blue eyes, and threw to the floor. He stormed out of the room and back outside to the car, no doubt to look for me. I knew he thought I would be hiding on the ground somewhere. I also knew that he was wrong.
My inner timer told me that my suit was ready and operational, so I moved out into the open and prepared to take off. Unfortunately, my blonde-haired captor chose that moment to drive by on the nearest street, and I was forced to shrink back into the shadows for another few seconds while I waited for him to disappear around a corner. As soon as he was out of sight, I reached for the release cord on my harness and ran toward the street, yanking the cord and spreading my wings at the same time.
The empty shell of a backpack flew off of my back and was immediately snatched out of the air by my waiting hand. A black, fourteen-foot wingspan now protruded from my back, and I pumped them lightly downward while I sprinted toward the middle of the street. The second pump was stronger, and with the third flap of my wings, I used every ounce of power in my legs and leapt into the air, allowing the great black pinions on my back to lift me into the sky. The pockets of helium in the lower half of my suit made my legs light enough to spread behind me, and I lifted them into the air. Tucking my arms close to my body to give my wings room to maneuver, I banked to my left and flew as quickly as I could to the elementary school.
No one was outside to see me, so I landed in the middle of the playground and ran into the building. As quickly as my legs could take me, I was up the stairs and in the office. Gram, the school secretary, looked ready to either shoot me or call the police, so I removed my helmet and sputtered, "Gram, it's okay. It's just me. Listen. I need Greg's teacher to keep an especially close eye on him. Someone I don't know tried to take me from school today, but I formed a plan and escaped, so he may come here for Greg instead. Please keep him safe for me."
All Gram could do was nod, but I hardly noticed because I was already back in the hallway jamming my helmet back onto my head. I almost fell down the stairs on my way to the main floor, but recovered and pushed my way out the door. Running full speed across the hot black asphalt, I gripped my harness tighter and began to flap my wings. No sooner was I in the air than the recess bell rang. I was out of sight before any of the kids got a chance to see me.
I made my way back to the high school, landing in the parking lot and rushing into the office. Receiving the same reaction from the high school secretary, Donna, I once more removed my helmet and explained the situation. Donna reacted a bit more quickly.
"What's going on?" She asked.
"Even I don't really know." I answered. "But I do know that the message you gave me this morning about my parents is false. Something is going on, and I just got dragged into it. I have to find out where my parents are and help them. The scary part is that they don't even know about this." I indicated the suit.
"Creepy." Donna said. "How does it work?"
"Well, I really wasn't supposed to let you see it, much less tell you about it, but it's plugged into my brain."
Donna simply shuddered.
"I'm really sorry about this." I said. "Please make sure Clarck gets Greg home safely. I really have to go. Where did my parents say they were going?"
"New York City."
"This certainly won't be fun." I said as I thought of the expansive city.
Before I left the school, I decided to keep my promise and went down the hall to the History classroom. I folded my wings and kept them pressed against my back, moving them as little as possible; my helmet was tucked safely under my right arm when I walked into the classroom. A collective gasp swept through the room when my fellow students saw me.
"I told you I would be back." I said.
No one could talk.
"Listen," I told them, "This suit is top secret government property. Please don't tell anyone you saw it. I just came back to let you know I was all right, but I can't stay. I have to go."
Carol shook off her stupor. "It's ########." She said with unrestrained skepticism. "You're such a freak!"
I sighed and shook my head. "Not ########. Not a costume. This is a real flight suit."
"No way!" Scoffed Jerrica, one of the popular girls who never had a problem with contradicting everyone she hated.
"Look." I said. "If you want proof, I can give it to you, but right now I don't have time to argue." I turned to leave when Carol piped up. "Then show us."
I simply turned around, braced my feet on the floor, and spread my wings open for the class to see. "Still think they're ########?"
Carol shut her mouth and folded her arms, pouting.
My friend Danielle got up from her seat and approached me as I folded my wings again. She reached out and touch one of the flight feathers on the tip of my left wing.
"It feels so real." She said. "But it's not, is it?"
"No." I replied. "Sorry I didn't tell you before, but they wouldn't let me. The three weeks of ministry work I spent in Peru was really a secret mission to save a rich man's baby daughter. This was my transportation. I'm really sorry but I have to go. Staying here longer than absolutely necessary puts you all in danger."
I turned around and left my classmates staring in awe after me.
Exiting through the same door I had used earlier, I moved into an open area of the parking lot and opened my wings once more, preparing to take off to the East, toward the Big Apple.
After three straight hours of flight, my eyes began to tire, so I landed in the parking lot of a Central Montana gas station and got out of the flow of traffic. Every head in the parking lot turned to see me walking toward the building, and several motorists slammed on their brakes to get better look at the mysterious winged being that was visiting their small piece of the world.
I entered the convenience store and approached the refrigerated drink coolers at the back of the building. Opening one of the doors and reaching inside for a water, I recalled with pride the extra stash of money I had left in the front pocket of the suit. A hundred dollars of my allowance cash was hidden there, so I had money to live off of fast food and water for several days. I carried the water to the front of the store and reached into the pocket on the chest of my suit for the money there. I became aware of the cashier staring at me.
After I paid her, I wrapped the water bottle in my wing harness, left the store, and took off again, searching for a secluded area to land so that I could remove my helmet without fear of being seen. On a nearby hill, there was a nice circular clearing surrounded by evergreen trees and shrubs where I would be well concealed. Landing with care among the dense vegetation, I sat with my legs crossed on the ground and opened the cold bottle of water. I removed my helmet and finished the bottle in one sitting before replacing the headgear and flying back to the gas station.
I threw away the plastic water bottle and was about to take flight when I noticed a trio of black SUVs pulling into the parking area. I knew instantly that this could be either really good or really bad; these could be government vehicles or vehicles sent by my blonde-haired friend.
If these people were indeed government agents from my department, they probably would have opened communications through my helmet headset. Considering the fact that they hadn't yet attempted to speak with me, I was leaning toward the idea that they weren't aware I had one.
The SUVs parked in a row near the building, far enough away from one another to allow all of their doors to open simultaneously, and as soon as the driver of the first vehicle became visible, I knew I wasn't in danger. Agent Hoover was leading the team that had come for me.
Garrison Hoover was a towering six foot seven inches tall with straight, voluminous brown hair. He was lean and muscular, one of the strongest men I had ever met, and in a fair fight it was hard to get the best of him. I did beat him once in a sparring match, though, but that was because he had taken a shine to me and would never let anything hurt me. I still never let him hear the end of it.
Noting that the team of men were wearing field uniforms instead of business suits tipped me off to the fact that something dangerous was happening. I casually approached Hoover and we pounded knuckles.
"Why didn't you open a line to my helmet?" I asked, not bothering to take it off; my job was to keep my face unassociated with the flight suit.
Hoover's smile faded and he instantly became serious. "We didn't want to risk someone overhearing us. There's been a rise in agent captures lately, so we think somebody's got intel on our offices. Luckily, our Double-F files are in a different database, so the identities of the Gliders are still unknown, including yours."
I shifted uncomfortably. "Well," I said, my voice quieted by my helmet, "that may not be exactly true. Someone tried to kidnap me today, but I escaped using my suit. He may have seen me, but I did my best to avoid his detection."
Hoover frowned. "That's not good. At this point, you're our top Glider, and we can't afford your being compromised. Why don't you hop in the car and give us a full report? We'll drop you off when you're finished so you can fly overhead and scout for us on the way back to Headquarters."
I nodded and took a quick glance around the parking lot. My training had taught me that an enemy can lurk anywhere, at any time, in any form; I was simply allowing my week of 'missionary work' to take over. I scrunched my wings up as tightly as I could, then squeezed into the SUV that Hoover had been driving. I removed my helmet when the doors were closed.
"So what happened?" Garrison asked. We had pulled out of the parking area and were on the highway, headed East again. Hoover was watching me through the rearview mirror.
"Well, when I got to school this morning, I got a message from the office saying that my parents had to leave for an emergency business trip to New York City. I got to History class about eleven o' clock, and just after class starts, this guy walks in, dressed completely in black; even his face is covered, by a black ski mask. He was looking the class over, and when he looked at me, he stopped and stared, then he asked me what my step father's name is. I told him, and he stuck out his hand as though he wanted me to come with him. That's when I got the idea for the flight suit, because I figured my parents are in trouble, so I thought that maybe I could fly to New York to help them myself. I got out of my desk and went to the door, but I stopped and told my friends not to call the police, that I would come back to let them know I was okay. This 'kidnapper' and I went out the east door of the school, but before we got in the car, I told him that I needed to go home for something. He got suspicious and asked me why, so I told him I needed tampons. Hehe; that made him uncomfortable. Anyway, we got to my house and I called the school to let them know I wouldn't be there for the rest of the day because a friend of my dad's picked me up. After that I went to my room and got the suit. I got outside with it before he came in the house and saw me, but when he found out I was missing, he got angry and started searching for me with his car. I almost ran out into the street right in front of him, but he turned a corner, so I was able to take off and head back toward the school, in the opposite direction. I let both schools know that my brothers might be targets and told them to watch closely for danger, then I told my class I was all right. By the time I got going toward the east, it was eleven thirty. I flew for three hours before I landed at the gas station and bought a water. I found a hiding place to drink, mbt günstig, went back to the station to throw the bottle away, and got in the car with you."
Hoover thought for a moment before saying, "Well, if indeed this kidnapper saw you, he has no proof that it was actually you under the helmet, but I have a feeling that you're safe as far as your identity goes." He paused. I'll open a line to your helmet while were traveling together, but I want radio silence unless communication is absolutely necessary. If anyone is listening, we want to keep them in the dark." Hoover pulled the big black vehicle to the side of the road and engaged the parking brake, the other SUVs coming to a stop a short distance behind. He then turned around to look at me. "Be careful." He said. I nodded and slipped my helmet over my face. The agent to my right opened the door and got out, providing me with enough space to exit the car.
I scooted to the edge of the seat and hopped to the ground, and when I was a safe distance from the vehicle, I opened my wings and 'flexed' my flight muscles. Ever since I'd first worn the suit, I'd loved the feeling of the huge feathered wings on my back, the weight, the sort of power they gave. I wished I'd had more recreational flying time. Perhaps after this whole thing blew over, I would be able to fly more. I focused on the task at hand and took off, watching from the air as Hoover led his team once again down the highway. From here on out until we arrived at headquarters, my job was to keep a strict lookout for potentially dangerous situations.
While I flew, I allowed my training to do the searching while my mind did some thinking. Hoover had mentioned that there had been a rise in the number of agents captured recently, which meant one of three things. One: that there was a traitor or double agent in our midst back at headquarters. Two: the enemy, whomever that was, had planted a mole at the office. Three: a specially designed computer virus was stealing information from us and sending it to its creator. The virus deal had happened before, but it was caught before anything serious could happen, and the Captain had started planting false information to throw our snoopers off the trail; he had even set up a ######## operation so that he could catch the enemy while they tried to outmaneuver us. Our agents had managed to arrest every one of the twenty men sent to eliminate our nonexistent forces. The lives of countless government agents had been saved by this simple act of cunning, and the Captain was promoted to Chief of the Glider operation.
The Gliders were a secret group of people like me who had been surgically equipped to wear the FreedomFlight flight suits. The nickname Double-F was quickly adopted for the suits, but the people piloting them became known as the Gliders. I had been the first Glider recruited for the team, and because of my love for the air, I soon became the best. There were only ten of us, five male and five female Gliders, and we had all been trained so that we were able to fight hand-to-hand while wearing the suits. We were the most maneuverable, most covert team in the world, tiffany Ring, simply because we almost never needed to use large aircraft to get from one place to another. We could fly through enemy territory virtually undetected because we possessed such small heat signatures.
I caught a suspicious movement up ahead and glanced down at Hoover's car. All three SUVs were still moving single file, so they either didn't see what I saw or they didn't find it suspicious. I pressed a small button concealed on the right side of my helmet near my ear.
"Hoover?"
"Yeah."
"I've got movement up ahead. A large truck just pulled over and its driver opened the trailer. Please advise."
"We'll pull over. Go ahead and take a look-see."
"Affirmative."
I watched Hoover and his men pull over and folded my wings slightly, dipping into a shallow dive. I circled slowly over the truck for a few moments before I dropped more quickly, pulling up with my wings and touching down with my feet. My toes hit the ground first, then the soles of my boots made contact, so that I stood flat-footed on the ground about fifteen feet away from the front of the truck. The driver hadn't yet seen me, which I found odd because I had done nothing to hide my presence.
I approached the truck, circling to the driver's side as I got close. The man who had opened the trailer was doing something near the rear of the vehicle, so the open trailer door continued to hide me from his view. I walked toward the driver of the truck.
"Sir?" I yelled. "Sir, do you need any help?"
The man appeared from behind the door of the trailer, but wasn't surprised to see a 'guardian angel' standing on the road. Something wasn't quite right about this whole thing. I reached for the intercom button on my helmet.
"Hoover, this guy isn't surprised. I'm gonna-"
I was cut off by a jolt that went flashing through my body. Everything went blurry as I pitched to the right and hit the asphalt. There was a muffled 'clunk' when my helmet made contact with the ground, and after that, things were fuzzy. I became aware of someone trying to lift me off of the ground, then the sound of squealing tires; next there was gunfire. I fell again, and my body protested with lancing pain. The guns stopped, and then someone else, Hoover, I sensed, picked me up and carried me somewhere before laying me down on a flat surface. Doors slammed, and an engine (Was that the semi truck?) began to roar.
Somebody arranged my body so that I was laying on my left side, then began to fumble with my helmet. I lifted my arm and grabbed weakly at the person's hands, but my own hand was brushed aside without effort. Whoever was leaning over me went back to work, slipping my helmet over my head and tossing it aside. As I had suspected, it had been Hoover who had rescued me.
"Danielle?"
I opened my eyes and tried to speak, but the words wouldn't come.
"I can't believe you're still conscious!"
I tried to sit up, but Hoover pressed his hand into my shoulder, forcing me to lie back down.
"Don't. You'll overexert your body, and the pain will be worse later for it. Just rest. You'll be fine. We eliminated the kidnappers and commandeered the truck."
After what had happened, I wasn't able to sleep, so I just laid there and thought. Even if my first kidnapper had seen me and suspected that I was the one in the flight suit, he'd had no proof, so that meant that whoever was after me knew exactly who I was.
They knew that I was a Glider, and they knew I worked for the government.
Which wasn't good.
That meant that my parents were in real danger.
