On the day of Ghatasthapana, all Hindu Nepalese worship Diyo (an oil-fed lamp), Kalas (auspicious jar) and lord Ganesh in accordance with Vedic rituals and sow maize and barley seeds in a jar filled with soil and cow dung for germination of the auspicious Jamara (barley shoots).
The Jamara (barley shoots) later on the 10th day is cut and along with the auspicious rituals and are given by parents to their children and by elders to their juniors on the tenth day of the Badadashain festival with blessings for peace, progress and prosperity.
There is also a tradition of sacrificing animals while initiating the germination of the "Jamara".
The first day of Badadashain festival - "Ghatasthapana" falls on the first day of the bright half of the lunar calendar in the month of end September and the beginning of October.
Badadashain which celebrated by the Hindhu community across the country and is regarded as one of the greatest festival and celebrated by a large swathe of people inside and outside the nation.
The festival which is marked for the celebration of the defeat of the evil by the supreme power by Goddesses Durg will last for next 10 days.
It is also known as the "Navaratri Parba" or the nine night's festival of Badadashain.
People celebrated the Dashain festival which much fanfare and merry-making.
It is also regarded as the high time for buying new clothes, eating delicious food- meat of he-goat especially, and meeting with relatives, friends, and play cards.
Since the early morning, people have gathered around the Hindu Goddesses shrines which will continue throughout the festival on Wednesday.
People celebrate also with sacrificing many animals in the name of God and also in the temples during the festival.
Many also recite sacred verses and hymns dedicated to Durga Bhawani (Goddesses) at temples and shrines as well as at people's homes throughout the Dashain period.
