Orlando Hernandez resurfaced this morning,Cheap Fox Racing Hats, throwing about 40 pitches from a mound for the first time since being diagnosed last Thursday with arthritis in his lower neck. El Duque acknowledged a crowd of reporters waiting for word on his progress with nothing more than a nod.
yeah, not such a big deal, i agree. michael kay was doing an interview with paul oneil before a game a number of years ago and o’neil threw a ball several rows back into the right field seats in yankee stadium from homeplate with ease (314 ft. to the wall, more to the seats). then again…he did have a great arm.
Does anyone else feel like Spring Training coverage by the New York Media is maybe the most rediculous thing in the world. March baseball doesn’t even come close to mattering. Baseball before the All-Star break barely counts… I feel bad for that Phil Hughes kid who already has “The Next Rocket” tag for thrown a good 40 pitch session in the bullpen. You can’t live up to those expectations, so mark Hughes down for the next player destroyed by NY media’s expectations. Have fun in therapy, Phil. Maybe the only thing more insane than NY media is the Japanese media and Dice-K. It’s disturbing.

I do hope they put Dice-K’s locker next to Manny’s. How fun would that be?

Now, I’m puzzled. Is it surprising that any major leaguer can throw a ball to a teammate 150 feet on the fly? We’re not talking Johnny Damon or Mickey Rivers, either….discuss.
Anyway–Hope El Duque stays healthy. Good luck to the Mets for season-long success.

I don’t think he means 450 feet,http://radio.kusol.org/blogs/1393/39...e-out-the-coac, that’s enormous. But, I did once watch as Vlad Guerrero threw a ball from the third base line into the right field stands at Yankee Stadium…a throw of over 320 feet,Cheap Jordan Hats! It was an amazing show of the talent gap between amateurs and professionals.
I think El Duque’s long toss is all the more impressive when you remember he is a card carrying member of the AARP.

He must mean 450 feet. 150 feet is only from home plate to shallow center field.
Oh, God. Dude, just please don’t get hurt in spring training,Minnesota Twins Hats!
Or maybe he has exceptionally large feet?
“Ooh, caliente!” Hernandez told him.

It’s not that the distance is impressive, but rather how it’s thrown. Pitchers can throw long toss that moves over the field similar to line drives off of a bat–straight and level. Catchers, and the rest of the mere mortals, have to throw it on a high arc (like a pop-up) to get the distance…
